Gabrielle Harbowy got her start in the publishing industry as a Pricing Analyst at Scholastic. Since leaving the corporate side of publishing in 2006, she has edited for publishers including Pyr, Lambda Literary, and Circlet Press, and spent a decade as the managing editor at Dragon Moon Press. She copyedits professionally and is a submissions editor at the Hugo-nominated Apex Magazine. With Ed Greenwood, she co-edited the award-nominated When the Hero Comes Home anthology series; their latest anthology endeavor is Women in Practical Armor, from Evil Girlfriend Media. Her short fiction can be found in several anthologies, including Carbide Tipped Pens from Tor. She’s also the author of two novels: Hellmaw: Of the Essence (TEGG), and Gears of Faith (Paizo). Gabrielle Harbowy lives in the San Francisco Bay area with two black cats who are named after chocolate, and a significant other who is not.
Gabrielle received her B.A. from Rutgers University. Always an avid reader, she spent her summers working in libraries while in college and jumped at the chance to accept a position as a pricing data analyst at Scholastic in New York City.
Her experiences in publishing inspired her to transform her love of books and her attention to detail into an editing career. In 2006, with six years’ experience in the publishing field, she left the corporate world and struck out on her own as a full-time freelance editor.
Gabrielle is an Active member of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). She has edited for publishers including Pyr Books and Circlet Press, and spent ten years as the Managing Editor at Dragon Moon Press. She is a staff proofreader for Lambda Literary and a submissions editor for the Hugo-nominated Apex Magazine. She has edited for aspiring and first-time authors, New York Times Bestsellers, and Hugo Award winners. Books she has acquired and/or edited have gone on to be finalists and winners of Bram Stoker awards, Parsecs, Nebulas, the Andre Norton Award, and ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year awards.
Gabrielle’s first novel, Hellmaw: Of the Essence, is available now. She has a Pathfinder Tales novel, Gears of Faith, forthcoming from Paizo. In her free time, Gabrielle is a pianist and avid tourist. She is currently teaching herself to play harp and ukulele.
