Gabrielle Harbowy is an award-nominated editor, author, and anthologist, and a former Managing Editor at Archvillain Games. She wrote the novels Aether’s Pawn, Pathfinder Tales: Gears of Faith, and Hearts Are Jerks, and her short fiction has appeared in markets including Fantasy Magazine. She is an active member of SFWA, the LGBTQ+ Editors Association, and the International Association of Media Tie In Writers (IAMTW). Gabrielle Harbowy got her start in the publishing industry as a Pricing Analyst at Scholastic. Since leaving the corporate side of publishing in 2006, she has edited for publishers including Pyr, Lambda Literary, and Circlet Press, and spent a decade as the managing editor at Dragon Moon Press. She copyedits professionally and was a submissions editor at the Hugo-nominated Apex Magazine. With Ed Greenwood, she co-edited the award-nominated When the Hero Comes Home anthology series and Women in Practical Armor, from Evil Girlfriend Media. Her short fiction can be found in Fantasy Magazine and several anthologies, including Carbide Tipped Pens from Tor. She’s also the author of three novels: Hellmaw: Of the Essence (TEGG), awarded Runner Up in the San Francisco Book Fair; Hearts Are Jerks, and Pathfinder Tales: Gears of Faith (Paizo/Tor). Gabrielle is a Taos Toolbox graduate (2018) and an active member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA), the LGBTQ+ Editors Association, and the International Association of Media Tie In Writers (IAMTW). She has served as a juror for the Parsec Awards and the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy, and she has written game adventures for Pathfinder PFS and Dungeons & Dragons Adventurers League. The long story:
Gabrielle received her B.A. from Rutgers University. Always an avid reader, she spent her summers working in libraries while in college and jumped at the chance to accept a position as a pricing data analyst at Scholastic in New York City.
Her experiences in publishing inspired her to transform her love of books and her attention to detail into an editing career. In 2006, with six years’ experience in the publishing field, she left the corporate world and struck out on her own as a full-time freelance editor.
Gabrielle is an Active member of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (SFWA), the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers, and the LGBTQ+ Editors Association. She is a graduate of Taos Toolbox (2018) and Launchpad Astronomy Workshop (2014), and a past juror for the Parsec Awards and the Andre Norton Award. She has edited for publishers including Pyr Books, Lambda Literary, and Circlet Press, spent ten years as the Managing Editor at Dragon Moon Press, and was a submissions editor for the Hugo-nominated Apex Magazine. She has edited for aspiring and first-time authors, New York Times Bestsellers, and Hugo Award winners. Books she has acquired and/or edited have gone on to be finalists and winners of Bram Stoker awards, Parsecs, Nebulas, the Andre Norton Award, and ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year awards.
Gabrielle’s first novel, Hellmaw: Of the Essence, was honored as a Runner Up in the San Francisco Book Festival. Her Pathfinder Tales novel, Gears of Faith, is available from Paizo, as is her Pathfinder game scenario, Grotto of the Deluged God. She has written three adventures for D&D Adventurers League. With Ed Greenwood, she co-edited the award-nominated When the Hero Comes Home anthology series, and Women in Practical Armor, from Evil Girlfriend Media. She also edited The Complete Guide to Writing For Young Adults for the Complete Guide series at Dragon Moon Press. Most recently, she served as Managing Editor at Archvillain Games.
In her free time, Gabrielle is a pianist, gamer, abstract artist, and avid tourist. She is currently teaching herself to play the harp.
